GSB Community Blood Drive - Thursday, March 1, 2012

Meeting the demand for blood in New Jersey is an ongoing challenge. Cancer and surgery patients, accident and trauma victims, newborn babies and many others – close to 2,000 people in our area every single day need blood transfusions just to survive. With all the advancements in medicine and healthcare there is more need for blood transfusions than ever before.

I am writing this appeal in an attempt to prompt more individuals in the GSB and the extended GSB community to participate in the Blood Drive scheduled for Thursday, March 1, 2012. The process takes generally less than one hour and no appointment is necessary. Even if you can't donate, you can still offer your support by inviting relatives, friends, and neighbors to participate. Just getting the word out about the blood drive could significantly add to the number of donations giving the Gift of Life to someone in our community.

Should you want to donate and have some questions you can do the following:

1) Make a confidential call to NJ Blood Services medical eligibility department at 1-800-688-0900.

2) Go to http://www.nybloodcenter.org/ which addresses many of the eligibility questions as well.

I have O- blood type and am CMV- . I find it rewarding to know that I am a universal donor. CMV- means that my blood can go to premature babies; I find this especially gratifying. Of course, all blood types are in demand and most welcome. So, please consider donating.
